Victory for Labour and the People of Swanley in the Masterplan Campaign
On Thursday 9th February, the Cabinet at Sevenoaks District council passed a resolution rejecting most of the contentious items in their Master Plan, including building on the Rec and the 3,000 home Garden Village on prime agricultural Green belt land.
LABOUR LED THE WAY IN THIS CAMPAIGN BY ORGANISING A PETITION CALLING FOR NO BUILDING ON THE REC IN 2015 AND CALLING A TOWN MEETING IN OCTOBER 2016.
Opposition to the Plan was heightened by the people of Archer Way who started a petition against the Garden Village, which gained nearly 2,000 signatures.
The cause was then taken up by the Swanley Tories, when it was clear that the people opposed these plans. There was a united assault against these plans, with leading figures in the Conservative and Labour parties and UKIP uniting, attending key meetings and speaking with one voice.
There was a conspicuous absence of any of the Swanley Liberal Democrats from any of these meeting in Swanley. Both the Conservative and Labour candidates in White Oak ward by-election were at Sevenoaks to witness the key decisions. Where was the Liberal candidate? Is he really interested?
This is a victory for the people of Swanley, that was started by Labour’s strong resistance to building on the Rec back in 2015.
I urge you to support Labour in its campaigns for Swanley.
