Having just read your letter of resignation as Mayor of Swanley, I am writing to you offering my full support and understanding of your actions.
Your letter contained a full and very reasoned explanation. You vividly exposed the toxic mix of arrogance and ignorance and it is this detail that rang very true with me having suffered very similar experiences myself in my recent dealings with the Town Council ruling group. It has been this attitude that has done so much to degrade the Town Council facilities and the quality of life for many of our citizens.
I do appreciate that you have been quietly working for the best interests of our community and it is regrettable that your contributions have been ignored. I can only apologise to you and your family for the hurt caused that drove you to such drastic action as resigning as Mayor.
Following your resignation, you must be prepared to expect further aggression. This you experienced at last week’s Council Meeting when the leader tried to prevent you from announcing the reasons for your action. However, there are many people who have misunderstood the quiet politeness of the Nepalese and underestimated the steely determination of spirit which I am sure will help you through these difficult times.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to support you and your family in the future.
