Labour Annual Conference 2016

Labour Party Conference Blog

Swanley & District Labour Party will be well represented at the 2016 Labour Party Conference being held in Liverpool. Three members are going; including one of our candidates in the local by-election Jackie Griffiths, standing as councillor for Sevenoaks District Council –Christchurch & Swanley Village Ward. We plan to do regular blogs on the conference so keep backing for more.

Jackie Griffiths gets the ball rolling:

Getting ready for off now – received my agenda for Women’s Conference which is being held on Saturday. Constituency party has booked me in for this. It looks interesting and covers a lot of topics that are important for women including ending violence against women, reclaiming the internet, creating workplaces fit for the future, women vs state pension inequalities. There is a tribute to be made to Jo Cox and an address by Angela Rayner MP Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities. Should be interesting

Jackie did express regret that she was not able to fulfill her other duties, but as always she is making sure that colleagues are covering for her.

Stakeholders meeting is tonight for Darent Valley Hospital. I normally attend this event but as I am off early in the morning to the Labour Party Conference I am going to give it a miss. This is a shame as I have heard at another meeting that there is a large tendering contract being signed with Virgin towards the end of this month. I am concerned about the implications of this in the long term and feel it would be of interest to those in Christchurch Ward. I have asked a colleague to collect information for me.
